| What
voluntary work could you do in Failsworth? |
4The Failsworth
Volunteer Centre acts as a central resource for volunteering in
Failsworth. We liaise with charities and community groups to
match them with suitable volunteers. We also advertise vacancies
at the centre, and on the website so you can make direct contact
with the group if you wish.
|
In addition to
the service we also undertake our own projects, from planting
days to woodland clean ups were helpers can turn up on the day.
We are always
looking for suggestions on new work we could be doing, if you
know of a piece of open space which needs a tidy, or a fence
that needs a coat of paint or repair, please let us know.
If you volunteer, you have the chance to meet
new people, to learn new skills, to develop new
interests, and to be part of the community.

There
are literally hundreds of ways in which you can get
involved - all you need is a little time and energy. In
return you will be rewarded with a sense of personal
achievement and satisfaction
We can offer a
variety of planned activities, some of which include;
4Taking
an official role in the community - If you have time, and
commitment to take an official role in the Failsworth community,
the sense of achievement can be great. The community, even
official bodies we may never think about rely on volunteers to
help them run effectively. Some of these roles include; local
councillor, magistrate, school governor, co-opted member, police
station attendee for young people, special police officer, the
list really does go on!
4Help
at the Volunteer Centre - We would like the centre to be
open as much as possible, we can only do this if we have people
willing to give their time to man the building.
4Environmental
- use your skills to help in a clean up or woodland
management
4Building
and Odd Jobs- have you got the skills to help vulnerable
people in Failsworth maintain their homes, simple jobs like
painting, or even mowing your neighbours lawn can make a huge
difference to some people. We are also looking for people to
help us renovate the Volunteer Centre - could this be you?
4Advisory
- help others by volunteering with an advice service such as
the Citizens Advice Bureau
4Driving
- Charities are always looking for driver to help take
people to hospital appointments, or to collect donated items
such as clothing or furniture for instance
4Education
- have you got a skill you could teach others - we can help
you set up classes at the centre to match your skills, these can
be anything; painting/drawing, flower arranging, computer
classes, plastering, basic skills etc, the list goes on...
4Collecting
- use your spare time to help in collecting for charities,
from Age Concern to the Poppy Appeal and Cancer Research, just a
few hours in your local supermarket can make all the difference
4Failsworth
Carnival - each year the Failsworth Carnival raises money
which is distributed to local voluntary groups, to make this
happen we need volunteers to help throughout the year |
